After losing another two important players to injury, Mikel Arteta of Arsenal has called on the Premier League to expand their squad sizes.

After Arteta revealed that Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey had experienced setbacks, the two will miss “a few weeks” of action.

Jesus will miss Saturday’s matchup between Arsenal and Sheffield United due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the midweek Champions League victory at Sevilla.

Due to a muscular injury that he sustained during training, Partey is not available for action until December, according to the PA news agency.

Due to injuries sustained during the summer transfer window, Arteta has already seen extended periods of absence from a number of players, including Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, and Bukayo Saka.

After knee surgery, Jurrien Timber has been out of the game for a while.

Having previously expressed his disapproval of football authorities for scheduling too many games, Arteta now believes that the Premier League should consider raising the squad size cap beyond the current 25.

When asked about expanding the squad size, he responded, “If we have more games, more competitiveness, and physically the standards are higher – by playing more minutes – we have to do that or instead of five subs, we have 10.”

After losing another two important players to injury, Mikel Arteta of Arsenal has called on the Premier League to expand their squad sizes.

After Arteta revealed that Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey had experienced setbacks, the two will miss “a few weeks” of actions.

Jesus will miss Saturday’s matchup between Arsenal and Sheffield United due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the midweek Champions League victory at Sevilla. Arsenal is still undefeated in the league thus far this season.

Partey isn’t there.

There are times when you are extremely unlucky, and other times there are things that are very hard to avoid. There is an increased risk when loading more players, especially those who haven't loaded in before.

“We attempt to control everything by managing it, but we must acknowledge that some things are difficult to accomplish.”

Despite being substituted in the previous two games, Martin Odegaard is available, and Arteta is confident in his captain’s performance.

Asked about recent criticism of Odegaard’s performances, Arteta said: “(It’s because) he’s an incredible player and he’s doing so much for us.

“He’s our captain. We expect him to step in all the time like with the other players, and this is great because that’s the role that he has.

“We have developed him into that player, that person, and now it’s about maintaining and sustaining that level. That’s the challenge.”
