Chelsea set to break Manchester city record
Chelsea news: The Blues have some important decisions to make when they host league leaders Manchester City to Stamford Bridge.
It is important to note that there is little chance—and this is understandable—that Raheem Sterling will be benched for Chelsea’s match against Manchester City on Sunday.
The 28-year-old is deserving of his spot in the team and will probably be much more driven to perform well when he plays against his old team.
He will be looked upon by many as an experienced player, which this young team so needs, but when things go against Chelsea, he still gets the blame.
Sterling is thought to be able to grab the lead during the 19 minutes that the Blues struggled and perplexed in their attempts to overcome Tottenham’s high-line stratagem on Monday.
There was an instant impression that the best paid player in the club could replicate his City production in a team that was as far off from that level of competency and structure as possible, given that he still had years to go and had over 100 league goals to his credit.
Despite being the second-highest scorer right now (only surpassed by Nicolas Jackson, whose comeback was lackluster five days prior), Sterling is being told he needs to improve rather than given credit for what he has and is contributing.
Whether this is a good or bad thing given his status as a valued team member, it is unlikely to influence Mauricio Pochettino’s choice.
There is, however, evidence to suggest that he would be better served coming off the bench.
Pochettino’s decision to go with Mykhailo Mudryk is auspicious because he is a publicly spiritual guy.
There was a recurring theme throughout the dramatic weekend that was highlighted by Tottenham’s dramatic loss to Wolves in the late game, and then intensified by Arsenal receiving a red card at the Emirates Stadium and Everton’s final victory against Crystal Palace.
