The Delaware Blue Coats opened the G League season at home against the Westchester Knicks, with a ring ceremony before the game.

Once the game began, the focus quickly shifted to the new players on the Blue Coat team, even though the returning players had taken center stage at first.

Javonte Smart, Chris Clarke, Jared Brownridge, Melvin Frazier Jr., and Ricky Council IV made up the first of what will likely be many iterations of the Blue Coats starting lineup, with Terquavion Smith serving as a highly effective sixth man.

In this one, the Westchester Knicks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Still, a number of the Sixers’ two-way players assembled impressive stat lines.

In particular, Terquavion Smith doesn’t hesitate to shoot the rock. He actually did so 33 times in the 32 minutes he played, scoring 11 of 33 from the field to total 37 points, eight rebounds, and two assists.

A third of the Blue Coats’ total points came from him.

Javonte Smart and Ricky Council IV, two of their other two-way players, had some pleasant moments.

Despite his struggles with efficiency, Smart finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

With 19 points and no rebounds, Ricky Council IV had an impressive stat line. He attempted nine three-pointers and made three of them.

Starting for the Westchester Knicks, our old friend Charlie Brown Jr. finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and effective shooting from the field.

There are still many games in the G League season, which has just begun. On Monday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. ET, Terquavion Smith and the Blue Coats will travel to face the Capital City Go-Go if you’d like to watch them play.
