Report: Ian Poveda’s actions when he observed Patrick Bamford substituting for Leeds.
In Saturday’s Leeds United victory over Plymouth, Ian Poveda did not see action as a substitute; however, the Yorkshire Evening Post revealed his actions when Patrick Bamford and Ilia Gruev were brought on.
We maintained the pressure on top two teams, Leicester City and Ipswich Town, thanks to goals from Dan James and Joel Piroe at Elland Road.
Middlesbrough’s defeat to Leicester
Leeds has won six of our last seven games and three of the last four heading into the November break.
A fantastic run of outcomes and evidence that this Leeds team is gelling beyond those early games.
Poveda is an obvious example, given what he did on Saturday. In our past 12 games, the 23-year-old has only managed three substitution appearances.
He was warming up with Bamford and Gruev in the latter stages.
Willy Gnonto, Jaidon Anthony, and Junior Firpo had entered the game before Bamford and Gruev came off the bench during injury time.
Poveda may have felt a little disappointed to be benched after warming up.
Ian Poveda shows good attitude despite Leeds disappointment
But, the YEP said that he patted Bamford and Gruev on the back as the duo came on – while he returned to his place on the bench on Saturday. Poveda’s lack of game time clearly, not affecting his attitude.
“Ian Poveda, Patrick Bamford and Ilia Gruev were called so that the latter two could go on.
Poveda gave both huge pats on the back, geeing them up, despite his likely disappointment at not getting the nod.”
Poveda deserves his place in the matchday squad having returned and impressing during pre-season. A player of huge potential, but after a tricky couple of years – is yet to turn potential into proven quality.
