Big update: Newcastle And Tottenham Are Fighting To Sigh A player…..

Newcastle United and Tottenham have been joined by Juventus in the race to sign Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, sources have told Football Insider.

Both Premier League clubs have identified the out-of-favour star as an ideal signing to bolster their injury-stricken squads for the second half of the season.

Phillips has struggled for game time at City since completing a £45million move from Leeds United in 2022.

It is understood that Newcastle and Tottenham are willing to offer Phillips a route out of Manchester, but any potential deal hinges on whether City will allow the 28-year-old to join a direct Premier League rival.

Serie A giants Juventus have provided City with an opportunity to offload Phillips without strengthening a rival.

Any potential January deal for Phillips will likely be a loan deal, with City not willing to accept a huge loss on their £45million investment.

Newcastle are eager to add a midfielder over January to fill the void left by summer signing Sandro Tonali following his suspension due to gambling.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (8 December) that Newcastle’s top priority in January is now signing a new centre-back.

However, a midfielder is still high up on Howe’s January shopping list and a loan deal for Phillips would allow the Tyneside club to work within their strict FFP limits.

Spurs are also looking to bolster their midfield in January with James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentacur out injured.

Ange Postecoglou believes the former Leeds United star would suit his high-energy pressing style implemented at Spurs this season.
