A year ago, Milan lost two games against Lecce before departing for Saudi Arabia, where they were defeated by Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana final, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (see below).

The awful January 2023 had only just begun, possibly the worst month in a great team’s recent history.

The good news for Milan supporters this year is that the team is feeling strong and the signs are different. Milan is still excited about the Champions League.

We need to figure out how Tuesday’s fantastic night will affect Saturday afternoon.

Stefano Pioli did not hold a press conference yesterday, and on Thursday, he did something unusual by assigning the starters from the previous two days to a day of part-time work. Pioli, for sure

Milan must win to try to prevent the gap from widening or even closing because Inter is six points ahead of Juventus at +4.

Samuel Chukwueze is the only man who will be forced to change in order to maintain the mood from midweek.

Christ Pulisic is still not well, having left the game against PSG late. Like Simon Kjaer, he stayed in Milan and will be absent from their national team for the next fifteen days.

That may not be terrible news, given how much Pulisic paid for a double intercontinental flight in September.

The other change will be in midfield, by choice. After running hard in his last game, Yunus Musah will take a break.

Does this imply that we’ll stick with the 4-2-3-1? Yes, most likely. Loftus-Cheek is expected to remain an unconventional attacking midfield player, as Noah Oka will be the first player off the bench and Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud will be the key players up front.

Loftus-Cheek was a destroyer against PSG, but his work rate needs to be controlled. It would probably be best for him to take it easy as he has just returned from a muscle ailment, but football is a game in which nobody stops.

Milan’s defense is already problematic. Apart from Kjaer, it’s evident that Pierre Kalulu and Marco Pellegrino are also absent, having been gone for a while. For that reason, Jan-Carlo Simic will sit out games.
