bowling potential, which affected the team’s performance,” Shadab Khan says of his dismal performance in the 2023 World Cup.

Shadab Khan, an all-rounder for Pakistan, has taken ownership of his lackluster performances at the 2023 ODI World Cup.

After placing fifth in the league stage of the competition in India, the Men in Green were unable to advance to the semi-finals for the third time in a row.

One of the favorites going into the competition was Babar Azam and company.

But halfway through the campaign, a run of four losses turned the hopes of Pakistan into nought, as they ended up winning just four of nine games.

The ineffectiveness of Pakistan’s spinners was one of the main causes of their problems.

Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz, among others, had high expectations for the tournament, given its subcontinental setting.

But when it counted, neither of them showed up, and Usama Mir found it difficult to leave a lasting impression.

Regarding his own form during the tournament, Shadab said:

I have let myself down, I didn’t live up to my potential as a bowler that has impacted the team’s performance. You always try to win a tournament, this could not happen.

We are out of the semifinals. Coaches, players, support staff everyone is disappointed.”

Whenever a tournament starts, we have to improve in all three departments. As a team, we failed to adapt to modern-day cricket,” he added.

In addition to being taken off the field against Australia, Shadab suffered a concussion halfway through the season. In six games, he claimed two wickets at an economy rate of 6.23.

Shadab Khan on the skipper being used as a scapegoat after the team’s defeat: “This should change”

In the aftermath of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Pakistan will place the greatest emphasis on Babar Azam.

Both fans and commentators criticized his leadership and decision-making, to the extent that it became possible that he might not continue as captain.

Opining that Babar copping the entire blame for the team’s misfortune is not fair, Shadab Khan said:

This represents a cultural difference. When we emerge victorious, it is attributed solely to the captain’s triumph. But in times of defeat, the responsibility for the loss falls squarely on the captain’s shoulders. This should change.

Pakistan have a challening tour of Australia lined up next while the cricketing board have several crucial decisions regarding leadership and coaching personnel to make in the meanwhile.
